Description

A long and healthy working relationship with the District of Sooke culminated in a new municipal website in July 2008. We worked closely with municipal staff on a variety of projects and phases beginning in late 2007, which resulted in their nifty new website.

Located on Vancouver Island, the District of Sooke is only a short 35-minute drive from downtown Victoria. The community's residents enjoy a relaxed, casual lifestyle in a rural setting that also affords many of the amenities of city life. Sooke is the gateway to numerous ecotourism adventures as well as the West Coast Trail, Juan de Fuca Marine Trail, and Galloping Goose Trail.

Our work for Sooke's website included a revision of their website architecture, along with the implementation of a powerful content management system, ElementCMS, which will enable District staff to update their website themselves. In order to make sure website updating goes smoothly, we had a multi-day training session with staff members to show them all the capabilities of the CMS, thereby allowing them to help create a top-notch website.

We added extra functionality to Sooke's website, as well, creating a customized calendar of events for them that will allow the District to show off their wealth of cultural activities, to residents and visitors alike. We also decked the site out in a dressy new re-design, one that shows off the tranquil, beautiful nature of Sooke itself.

District Staff and Constituents alike have been very enthusiastic about the new website, both for the design and for the ease of information access. Numerous compliments have been sent to Sooke staff and ourselves regarding the fresh look of the site and the improved site navigation. District staff have also been very pleased in using the selected CMS. This is not just due to the fact they can now do the work quickly and easily, but also that most staff had never used a CMS before and they were still able to hit the ground running once the site went live.
